Is Mother’s Day about presents? Is it a day to pamper yourself, eat breakfast in bed, get jewelry
from your husband, a handmade craft from your little one? Well, yea. But it’s so much more.
It’s a day to thank your child for giving you the opportunity to
celebrate the day. Here are a
few
things I want to thank my child, Jett, age 5, for on Sunday. And at the
bottom, you can print out a Thank You card for your kiddo(s)!
1. You helped me to let go of my vanity – the weight I gained
from carrying you means I kept you safe inside of me, even though I’m working
hard on getting rid of it every time I play ball with you. The gray hairs I see on my head in my
early 30s (I pull them out) means that I am working hard to raise you
right. The days (most) I don’t
wear makeup, I’m still beautiful to you.
2. Friday (and Saturday) nights at home watching tv is cool
now, not lame.
3. I love seeing the world through your eyes. When I act silly now, I have a
perfectly reasonable excuse – to hear the most presh belly laugh ever.
4. You let me live out a dream – I always wanted to be a
singer. (Trust me, I can NOT
sing.) But when I sing my Celine
Dion lullabies to you, you fall asleep to my voice. You LIKE my singing voice! Don’t ever stop – you’re the only one ever who will tolerate
it.
5. Comfy clothes are cool – funny tees are way cooler to you
than when I “get fancy.”
6. Laundry is not that bad now – I used to think Febreeze® could
fix anything, but now I’ve learned that actually washing clothes is the only way
to go. It’s fun to watch you jump
through the piles of clean, unfolded clothes.
7. Doing the dishes – I clean the kitchen at least 3 times a
day. I am grateful that you will
eat (most) of what I cook. (He
thinks “my” pancakes are the best.
Thank you, frozen Ego pancakes.)
8. I can say things I’ve always wanted to say - “Because I said so, that’s why, mister!”
9. You’ve taught me to TRULY appreciate MY mom (and of course,
dad) – Oh, let me count the ways.
10. You've
given my life a whole new meaning and taught me how to truly love
something with no judgement, no reservation, and no limitations.
So on my 5th Mother’s Day, this is what I
want. I want lots of hugs, lots of
kisses, I want to cook for you, play with you, answer every “Mooooommmm”,
refill your drink (in your Huggerz) 832 times, bathe you, read to you, tuck you
into bed at night and say your prayers with you. And if you could let me sleep past 7am, that would be pretty sweet, too.
Print this out for your kiddo! You know you're going to get card. Shouldn't you give one, too?
