Kid Craft: Glass Bubble Magnets

I love crafting with my daughter, who is 10. She is so much like me in that I loved to craft a lot as a kid and wish I had more time for it now. I try to find easy crafts to do with her that are low cost as crafting can get pretty expensive if you do it a lot!

Almost everything on this list can be found at the Dollar Tree, and some of it, you probably have lying around the house!

To make Glass Bubble Magnets, you will need:

*Glass Gems (the kind used in fish tank), large, with a flat side
*Glue gun and glue
*Roll of magnet strip, 1/2 inch thick
*Stack of old magazines
*Scissors
*Glitter nail polish
*Pen

This is a lot of fun, but this is more for kiddos aged 5 and up as the glue gun is hot and the use of scissors.

Parental supervision and help needed.

First, go through the magazines and tear out pages with great colors and patterns.  I found home and garden magazines to be the best. While you look through the magazines, heat up glue gun.

To see if the pattern you or your kiddos like will work, place a gem on top and see how it will look.

Next, take a pen and one of the glass gems and trace around them where you want the pattern.

With scissors, cut around the circles, leaving a little bit of room. You will need this so it is easier to trim up later.

To make a glitter one, paint the flat side of a gem and allow to dry. (For one without glitter, skip this step)

When you are ready to make the magnets, quickly put a THIN coat of glue from the glue gun on the circle. Quickly, press a gem, flatside down on the paper. Allow to dry.

When dry, take scissors and trim extra paper. Affix a magnet to the back of each one. If you want to seal it in better, paint a thin coat of clear nail polish on the paper side and allow to dry before affixing the magnet.
